The Noise In Silences

I thought I'll write about silence tonight,

The silence that each night brings,

When everyone in the house goes to sleep,

The only sound that echos is from the slight hum of the refrigerator,

Or slight snores of someone through the doors.

Or the silence that each morning brings,

When the world is still fast asleep,

But you are awake,

Gathering up your thoughts,

Setting the pace of the day,

By starting slow but slowly building up,

To conquer the world.

But I realized that in these silences,

There's so much noise of the head,

That keeps reverberating over and over,

Bringing up new things to think about,

And same old issues,

That have been buried under the folds of the brain,

Which still bother you,

Often on those silent nights,

And early mornings.

Does it ever shut up?

I guess not.
