Road Trip To The Mountains

We all have something that brings comfort to us when we are at our lowest. Sometimes your favourite flavour of ice cream, to that special pack of cup noodles or a sappy rom-com movie you've seen uncountable times or that one friend who just makes life feel instantly better. I tried all of it and more than that. Like making more than one cup of noodles, re-watching more than just one evergreen, wholesome movie, countless conversations that made me feel better but not the best, you know?

That was the time I knew I had to go. Somewhere, anywhere, away from here. So, I left.

I had read and heard my friends and strangers on the internet say that mountains change your life. I had to see it myself, and now that I have been to the mountains, I know that they really do change your mood, the perspective towards situations and life.

Here are a few things I the mountains secretly told me on my road trip to Spiti, Himachal Pradesh.

1. Not All Bridges Take You To Your Destination

A road trip to the mountains comes with lots of bridges that connects two mountains over a deep valley. Though, not all bridges will take you to your destination. Sometimes you'll be required to cross bridges that will eventually take you to a place you can call home. But some bridges will just take you far enough on a road to nowhere. Yet, sometimes just one bridge will take you straight to where you need to be.

And such is life. The bridges are like opportunities, the process, the journey towards the goal and not everything that comes our way is meant for us. Remember to take the right bridge, and if you think the bridge you're on is not meant for you, a detour can probably lead you to somewhere special and unexplored. Keep going!

2. Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Sometimes the only way to go forward on a narrow road in the mountains is to put your car, bike or bus in the reverse gear and step back.

With narrow roads and blind curves, sometimes, you have to let the vehicle from the opposite direction pass by before you carry your journey. And in this process, sometimes, you've to move a few paces back to make space for them. Stepping back doesn't mean you're not going ahead, but it means that you know you have to stop and go back before you can go ahead.

Such is life too.

3. You'll Find A Way Out Of Roadblocks

Mountains come with roadblocks, and these obstacles don't mean that it's the end of the road and your journey is over.

It means that maybe it'll take a while to reach your destination, but you'll find a way. It might not be the way you intended to go, but it'll be a way out from where you are now to where you want to be. Give new roads a chance.

4. You're Never Alone On The Road

When you're in trouble on the road, especially in the mountains, there'll always be someone to help you out. You're never alone. You'll never be alone.

This applies to life too.

5. The Rocky Road Ends Eventually

Remember riding on a rocky, unconstructed road for hours and hours and then hitting the smooth patch of road? Ahaaaa! Heavenly!

Every bad road ends, and there's always a good road waiting for you. In life and on the mountains.

bumpy roads, no one around, just hope.

6. Just Keep Going

You can stop to admire the view, take a chai break, watch the waterfall on a random nook of the road and adore the river flowing by the side, but you cannot stop for long. This journey will make the destination worth it. For every turn around the mountain will take you to a new place on the road and in life. So, just keep going!

So, if the mountains are not calling you yet, call them up and tell them you're coming to meet them and to change your life.
