A Safe Space
I want to introduce you to my favourite tree in the city,
The one that stands tall on a road I don't know the name of,
But I know exactly where to find it,
For it's been there for centuries and has seen so many people like me,
Sitting under it and just mesmerized by its glory and shade.
For it's a safe space.
•
I want to show you the tree in my local park,
Where my father photographed me when I was three,
As I fit so perfectly in one of its nooks,
For it's been there for centuries and has seen so many kids like me,
Playing under it all day in summer,
For it's a safe space.
•
I want to show you the tree I call the Ghost Tree,
Where I made up stories of ghosts to scare my friends,
As I wanted to climb up it's branches alone,
For it's been there for centuries and has rescued so many kids like me,
A little too dreamy and hopeful,
For it's a safe space.
•
I want to show YOU to all those trees,
Where I left a part of me,
As I leave another part of me with you,
For they've been there for centuries and has seen so many people like me,
Falling in love every day,
For you're a safe space.
